Scope of activities: In accordance with Belvedere´s mission as laid down in its foundation documents of 1903 and with its cultural and scientific remit, Belvedere deals with the presentation, collection and study of Austrian fine arts in an international context. Works of art created by Austrian artists from the Middle Ages to the present day are presented in their chronological, cultural and political context (ranging from the thirteenth century to the present) at several locations. Within its wide-ranging exhibition and event program, Belvedere brings the artists and their works closer to the public. It also houses a unique research center and archives comprising the library, an image data base, archives on the artists and a department for studying the origins of artworks, thereby fulfilling its cultural and academic remit.
